Predicting Gait Improvement after Multi-level Surgery in Children with Cerebral Palsy
نویسندگان
چکیده
INTRODUCTION Cerebral palsy is a neurological disorder that results in impaired motor control, spasticity, and consequently, a significant reduction in walking ability. There are a variety of orthopedic surgeries available to correct bony alignment and lengthen or transfer tight or spastic muscles, with the goal of improving walking ability. Patients often receive multiple simultaneous surgical procedures, but these treatments are not always successful. While most patients undergo a gait analysis and physical exam prior to treatment, interpreting this information is challenging. Thus, better tools are needed to objectively and effectively identify patients who are likely to benefit from multi-level surgery and enable realistic surgical goal-setting.

The use of minimally invasive techniques in multi-level surgery for children with cerebral palsy: preliminary results.
This study compares the initial outcomes of minimally invasive techniques for single-event multi-level surgery with conventional single-event multi-level surgery. The minimally invasive techniques included derotation osteotomies using closed corticotomy and fixation with titanium elastic nails and percutaneous lengthening of muscles where possible. A prospective cohort study of two matched grou...
متن کاملDynamic Balance During Gait in Children With Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy Versus Normal Children
Purpose: Cerebral Palsy (CP) can negatively affect dynamic stability in children with spastic diplegic Cerebral Palsy during walking. This condition results in a high risk of falling. There is limited evidence regarding the dynamic stability of children with Cerebral Palsy. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the dynamic stability of children with spastic diplegic Cerebral Palsy, compared to ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Modified Floor Reaction Ankle Foot Orthoses on Walking Abilities in Children with Cerebral Palsy
Objectives: This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of a modified floor reaction ankle foot orthosis (FRAFO) design on gait performance in children with cerebral palsy. Methods: Eight children with cerebral palsy wore a modified FRAFO bilaterally for six weeks. Motion analysis was used to assess the immediate effectiveness of the orthosis on improving gait and also following si...
متن کاملTrunk Kinematic Analysis during Gait in Cerebral Palsy Children with Crouch Gait Pattern
Background: Deficits in upper body movement have received little attention during gait in cerebral palsy (CP) children with crouch gait pattern (CGP).Objective: Purpose of this research is to describe the correlation of trunk movement with the excessive knee flexion and ankle kinematic in CP children with CGP.Methods: Gait analysis data from 57 limbs of diplegic CP children with CGP and 26 limb...
متن کاملDesign and Investigation the Effectiveness of Gait Enhancer on Standing Ability and Walking Speed in Children With Cerebral Palsy
Objective: The purpose of this study was to design and investigate the effectiveness of gait training with Gait Enhancer on standing ability and walking speed in children with cerebral palsy. Materials and methods: We designed a new gait trainer according to Theo Jansen mechanism. Two separated Jansen linkages were placed on both sides of a frame and were connected to the lower limb at the ank...
